Laser Safety Engineer – cropr

At H2L Robotics we're looking for an Laser Safety Engineer - cropr to join our team.

Fulltime · Delft

Will you make sure our agricultural laser hits the market safely? At cropr, we’re looking for a Laser Safety Engineer to take the lead in creating, executing, and safeguarding the full laser safety plan for our autonomous weeding robot. This robot eliminates weeds using a high-power laser – without pesticides. Our mission: to remove herbicides from agriculture and make a real contribution to sustainable food production. That mission requires technology that’s not just effective, but also 100% safe.

You’ll develop a practical and complete safety plan that meets industry standards, legal guidelines, and real-world use cases. You’ll translate regulations into smart, actionable measures and help implement safe systems in close collaboration with our engineers.

Experience with laser systems is required. Experience with CE certification, safety-by-design, or functional safety is a strong plus.

What`s in it for you?

  • A competitive salary (based on your knowledge, skills, and experience)

  • 25 vacation days per year (based on full-time), with the option to buy additional days

  • A key role in launching a groundbreaking, laser-powered agricultural robot

  • High influence on how safety is integrated into both product and process

  • Collaboration with technical experts in optics, software, and mechanical engineering

You

  • Hold a bachelor’s or master’s degree in physics, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, or a related field

  • Have proven experience with laser systems – high-power experience is a plus

  • Know (or are quick to learn) relevant safety standards and regulations (e.g. IEC 60825)

  • Can translate technical risks into measurable requirements, scenarios, and mitigations

  • Think analytically, work methodically, and communicate clearly

  • Experience with CE certification processes, product safety, or functional safety is a plus

What you’ll be working on

As Laser Safety Engineer, you’ll develop the safety framework for cropr – our autonomous robot that destroys weeds using a high-power laser. You’ll create a comprehensive laser safety plan that complies with current regulations and real-world demands. You’ll design test scenarios, execute them (independently or with others), and turn the results into concrete, actionable improvements.

You’ll liaise with internal engineers and external parties (such as certification bodies), ensuring that safety is built into every step of the design and decision-making process. Your work is critical to bringing cropr to market safely, responsibly, and ready for the future.

Your responsibilities

  • Develop and detail a complete laser safety plan, including risk analyses and mitigation strategies

  • Execute or coordinate relevant tests, simulations, and validations

  • Ensure compliance with safety standards and regulations (such as IEC 60825)

  • Translate safety requirements into design decisions and system specifications

  • Collaborate with engineers and external partners during the CE and safety process

  • Document findings, decisions, and actions for internal and external audits

About cropr

At cropr, we’re building an autonomous agricultural robot that selectively removes weeds – without using herbicides. Following the success of our tulip robot (developed under H2L Robotics), cropr is our next step toward sustainable farming. The project is currently in the development phase, with strong interest from the market. You’ll have the chance to help shape a robot that truly makes a difference.

Interested but have doubts?

Not 100% sure you meet all the requirements? No problem. At cropr, we value people who like to build, test, and improve – experience is great, but motivation matters just as much.
