Software Engineer - cropr

At H2L Robotics we're looking for a Software Engineer - cropr to join our team.

Fulltime · Rijswijk

We are building an autonomous laser weeding robot that selectively destroys weeds without using pesticides, a system that brings together AI, powerful lasers, galvos, motors and high‑speed cameras.

The first development phase is complete, and in the coming months the Laser Weeder will be deployed in real agricultural environments.

What`s in it for you?

  • You directly contribute to more sustainable agriculture with robots that are actually used in the field.

  • A salary of up to €5,000 gross per month, depending on your knowledge and experience.

  • 25 vacation days, with the option to purchase additional days.

  • A close‑knit, multidisciplinary engineering team with short communication lines.

  • A start‑up environment with lots of freedom, fast decision‑making and room for your ideas.

You

  • You have a bachelor’s or master’s degree in software, embedded systems or another technical field. A different background is also fine, as long as your experience matches the role.

  • You have 3–5 years of experience with Python in a hardware‑oriented context.

  • You get energy from testing on the machine and solving problems, not only from writing clean code.

  • You provide input on structure, performance, error handling.

  • You work independently, but actively seek collaboration with other disciplines.

  • Experience with C is a plus. Experience with robotics, embedded systems or electronics is very welcome.

What you’ll be working on

As a Software Engineer at cropr, you write and test the software that makes our robot drive, see and act. You develop in Python (and sometimes C), test on site, fix bugs and help ensure the software remains scalable, safe and maintainable.

During the first season in the field, you work together with AI engineers (who provide the vision models), mechanical engineers (who make everything move) and electronics engineers (who control the hardware) to make sure the robot gets the job done.
Where necessary, you will go out into the field with your laptop and multimeter to see what is going on, where your electronics knowledge comes in handy.

You translate the learnings from this first season into improvements that make the robot better and more robust.

In summary, you will be:

  • developing and testing machine‑oriented software (mainly in Python)

  • integrating software with hardware components and AI systems

  • tracking down and fixing bugs during testing and real field operation

  • building reliable, scalable and maintainable code

  • collaborating with colleagues in software, electronics, AI and mechanics

  • documenting design decisions, modules and interfaces

About cropr

cropr has its roots in the successful tulip‑selecting robot we developed at H2L Robotics. We are now building a scalable product that is ready for demanding agricultural environments. The first machines are being assembled over the coming weeks and will be operating in the fields from May this year.

Interested but have doubts?

Not 100% sure you meet all the requirements? No problem. At cropr, we value people who like to build, test, and improve. Experience is great, but motivation matters just as much.
